A Mountain of Art...

#RockSolidHistory from Salvation Mountain in Niland, CA.

This colorful and Christian monument was divined by artist Leonard Knight in 1984. He basically poured concrete over a large hill, painted it in vivid colors and designs, used found materials like tires and windows, and made it a shrine to his God. And yes, you can climb it!

It has been designated as a “folk art site worthy of preservation” by the Folk Art Society of America.

The mountain is not the only things Leonard touched. There are other pieces of art scattered around the site.

Leonard Knight passed away in 2014 at the age of 83.
