#RockSolidHistory from Mountain Springs Station, CA!
From 1862-1870, Peter Larkin and Joe Stancliff built a stone house about a mile north of this site and used it as a store for ox teams. Later, the San Diego and Fort Yuma Turnpike Co. used the site as a toll road station until 1876. Today there is the Desert View Tower (built in 1922 by Bert Vaughn) with a tourist store, along with AirBnB houses, and Boulder Park (an artist’s creation, Merle Ratcliff, during the Great Depression) on the grounds. From the tower, you can see Mexico! It is a wild and funky place you just cannot miss if you are in the area. #DesertViewTowerCA #MountainSpringsStationCA #MerleRatcliffart #BoulderParkCA #ImperialValley #CaliforniaHistory #ImperialValleyHistory #SanDiegoVicinity
