Out of this world...

#RockSolidHistory from the Obsidian Butte by the Salton Sea in California!

This other-worldly place looks straight out of a Star Wars movie and smells like the Jersey shore.

Obsidian is a black shiny rock formed by volcanoes. The place is covered with it, in small shards and big wispy hills. It is estimated the obsidian was formed 8,000 years ago. The Salton Sea covers some of it.

The Salton Sea was man-made in 1905, to help irrigate nearby crops, but it is shrinking. Set next to the San Andreas Fault, the state of California today is harnessing geothermal steam to power turbines and generate electricity right next to this site.

Otherworldly indeed!
