Wild West relic still hopping today

When you think of the Wild West – well Julian was it! Today it is a very cute town with some old relics still around, like the Bailey House, considered the oldest.

Many people came here because of the Gold Rush in 1849, and later as outcasts of the Homestead Act of 1862 that invited people to move out west but often onto inhospitable or unfarmable land. This house was built in 1869 by the founder of Julian, Drury D. Bailey.

Today it’s a charming café!
