#RockSolidHistory from the #PacificCrestTrail in California!
This 2,650 mile trail from Mexico to Canada passes through some varied terrain in southern California. For instance, near Julian, CA, it goes from shrubs and pine woodlands on top, to very dry desert conditions below on this Cuyamaca Mountains cluster. Although the trails were around for a long time, the PCT became official in 1968 with the passing of the National Trails System Act. It can take 5 months to hike the whole trail! I met a couple from Idaho trekking through some of it. They had climbed up a massive mountain that day, and both were suffering injuries! It must have been a bucket list item for them. #PCT #PacificCrestTrailHistory #CaliforniaHistory #CuyamacaMountains #JulianCA #NationalTrailsSystemAct
